What is PICO PREMIUM and how does it work?

Image 2.png

PICO PREMIUM is an advanced laser treatment that helps improve unwanted pigmentations, tattoos, and overall skin Rejuvenation. It uses ultra-fast pulses of laser energy—called “picosecond” pulses—to break down pigment into tiny particles without harming the surrounding skin. These tiny particles are naturally cleared away by your body over time, revealing brighter, clearer skin. In addition to this, its fractional handpiece also stimulates collagen production, which can make your skin look smoother, firmer, and more youthful—with little to no downtime.

Fractional Handpiece

The fractional handpiece equipped with a hexagonal fractional lens produces a grid of 360 micro-spots with exceptionally high intensity, capable of inducing laser-induced optical breakdown (LIOB) within the skin. This process triggers skin regeneration and stimulates dermal remodeling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What skin conditions can a picosecond laser treat?

Picosecond lasers are commonly used for:

  • Epidermal pigmentation (sunspots, freckles, age spots)

  • Dermal pigmentation (melasma, nevus of Ota)

  • Laser toning for overall brightening of melasma and PIH

  • Tattoo removal

  • Skin rejuvenation (acne scars, enlarged pores, fine wrinkles)

Q. How many sessions will I need to see results?

The number of sessions depends on:

  • The type and depth of pigment

  • The color and density of tattoos

  • Your skin type

  • The treatment goal (toning vs. scar remodeling)

Typically:

  • Pigmentation: 3–5 sessions

  • Melasma/dermal pigment: 5–10 sessions

  • Tattoo removal: 6–12+ sessions

  • Rejuvenation/scars: 3–6 sessions

Treatments are usually spaced 3–6 weeks apart.

Q. Is picosecond laser treatment painful?

Most patients describe it as:

  • Mild snapping sensation (like a rubber band)

  • Temporary warmth or tingling

Topical numbing cream is often applied before treatment, especially for tattoo removal or high-energy rejuvenation settings.

Q. What is the downtime after treatment?

Downtime varies depending on the indication:

  • Toning / light pigmentation: Minimal downtime, mild redness for a few hours

  • Dermal pigment / tattoo removal: Redness, swelling, possible crusting for several days

  • Rejuvenation with fractional handpiece: 3–5 days of redness and rough texture

Q. Is picosecond laser safe for all skin types?

Picosecond lasers are generally considered safer than traditional nanosecond lasers because they:

  • Deliver ultra-short pulses

  • Cause less thermal damage

  • Reduce risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)

However, proper parameter selection by a trained practitioner is critical, especially for darker skin types.
